Cultural taboos and patriarchal traditions are still followed in many parts of India and Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district is one among them. Here, women are still expected to leave their homes when they are menstruating and stay in dilapidated and unhygienic menstruation huts called kormas.
We have worked at improving the lives of the women in Gadchiroli by offering them Period Positive Holiday Homes – a modern, comfortable resting place, where they can safely stay during their period. These were constructed by the villagers as a service and the construction materials were provided by us.
