Makar Sankranti, also referred to as Uttarayana or simply Sankranti, marks the transition of the Sun into Makar rashi. This festival is a harbinger of new beginnings.
Traditionally, kites are flown to celebrate this festival, which symbolises the hope to soar higher with success.
It is our tradition at Mukul Madhav Foundation to send kites on behalf of Finolex Industries to all our project partners who support us with our initiatives. These kites are sent to the 35-plus schools that are supported by Finolex and MMF across India.
This year, we sent out 1,40,000 colourful kites handcrafted by the women folk of Santaram Sakhi Mandal, a self-help group based in Pithai village, in the Kheda district of Gujarat.
Makar Sankranti was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Mukul Madhav Vidyalaya. Til Gul and kites were distributed to all the students and staff at the school. Everyone had dressed up in their festive best and enjoyed flying kites together.
We hope that these kites bring an abundance of joy, colour, togetherness and prosperity into our lives.
