3-year-old Nikita (name changed), returned home after a long day of play complaining of pain in her leg. Within a few hours she was unable to walk.
Nikita’s family rushed her to a local hospital, where they were told that she needs advanced treatment, and was referred to Sassoon Hospital, Pune. On being admitted to Sassoon, it was detected that Nikita was suffering from Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), which is an ascending paralysis, beginning from the feet and hands, migrating to the trunks. The treatment for this Syndrome is 5 doses of IV Immunoglobulin. Each injection is quite costly and Nikita’s father, who works as a driver in Satara, could not afford this expensive treatment. A delay in beginning the treatment would prove fatal for his daughter.
The medical social worker from Sassoon Hospital contacted Mukul Madhav Foundation seeking immediate help for Nikita. Our team verified her case to be genuine and all 5 injections needed for her treatment were sponsored.
Nikita is recovering well, as she is currently undergoing physiotherapy sessions. The doctors say that she will recover fully in time.
The Mukul Madhav Foundation team wishes her good health and happiness in the years to come.
