107 children between ages 0-15 years were screened at the 4th Annual Free Health Check-up Camp organised by Mukul Madhav Foundation at the Tadiwala Road Slum Area in Pune. Participating institutions were Bharati Hospital’s Dental Team, H.V. Desai Eye Hospital’s Ophthalmic Team, Cochlea Pune’s Audiology & Speech Therapy Team and K.E.M. Hospital’s General Physicians. A few special ophthalmic cases and two other special cases were found, which have been referred to the respective hospitals for further investigation. It was noticed that most of these children suffer with Vitamin D deficiency and in general, there is a lack of hygiene. In the coming weeks, our team will coordinate with the concerned hospitals to look at these special cases and see how the problems found can be addressed. Similar camps have been organised by Mukul Madhav Foundation, since 2008, for children in the rural areas of Ratnagiri and at Zila Parishad Schools in Panchgani with the aim to provide quality healthcare facilities to those who are economically marginalised.
